My name is Deborah Lloyd and I'm a chainsaw sculptor currently based in Whanganui, New Zealand. I've been carving with chainsaws for about 25 years and have successfully competed in New Zealand, Australia and Germany. More about me and chainsaw carving.
If you’ve got a chainsaw safety certificate and you’re based in the Whanganui/Rangitīkei region, I’d be happy to show you some of the tips and tricks you’ll need to start producing your own carvings. I will provide the wood and the chainsaws, you just have to come with a drawing or a little figure you would like carved. You will need your own safety equipment, steel capped boots, chainsaw chaps and earmuffs. The course will take place over three days and cost is $1,500.00.
I can travel to your place and carve. I will supply chainsaws and fuel or I will use your chainsaws if you want to demonstrate these. I can arrange a log for extra cost or you can arrange a log and safety barriers. Cost is $1,500 per day for the demonstration, plus travel costs at 90c per kilometre.
Carving a sign is $75 per hour plus the cost of the wood. The cost of wood is determined by the size of the sign. There is also a charge for staining or sealing the carving, or the buyer can do this themselves.
Carving a letterbox costs $75 per hour plus the cost of the wood, plus a charge for sealing or staining the wood.
